The generation and purpose of Austins newest choral organization can be understood from the very start by its name: Vocali (It., plural for voices). As well defined by the phrase moving forward in the choral/vocal Art with vision and energy, Vocali will reach out to and involve passionate and talented singers of every genre, presenting an exquisite diversity of a cappella, accompanied, choral-orchestral, opera, and recital performances at a variety of local venues, primarily in the chamber medium. Complementing the performance portion of Vocalis mission established by founder and Artistic Director Barry Scott Williamson will be a series of choral and vocal outreach and educational events designed for children, youth, and adults in the Austin area. In Dr. Williamsons view, the achievement of excellence extends in equal parts to performer and audience, providing not only a sumptuous musical experience but a memorable social and educational experience as well. As a result, his rehearsals are known for their energizing pace and productivity and his performances as defining events that inspire performers and audience alike, something rarely encountered in todays live performance world.
A highlight of the 200910 season was the June 19, 2010 premiere performance of Austin composer Patricia Longs Symphony in D Major; Suite for Piano, Orchestra, and Special Percussion; and Mass in E-Flat Millennium, conducted by Dr. Williamson and featuring the Vocali chorus and orchestra. Several other performance projects are being considered. More information will be available in the near future.
Dr. Williamson invites singers from throughout the greater Austin area to consider participation in one or more of these events. For more information on how to get involved as a singer, listener and/or contributor, contact Dr. Williamson at 512-970-3070 or by e-mail.
