An exciting highlight of Vocalis spring 2010 schedule is Austin composer Patricia Long partnering with Maestro Williamson and Vocali to present the world premiere of her three recently completed major works, Symphony No. 1 in D Major; Suite for Piano, Orchestra and Special Percussion; and Mass in E-Flat Millennium. Dr. Williamson will conduct this highly anticipated premiere at Austins Hope Presbyterian Church on June 19, 2010 at 8 p.m., featuring orchestra, pianist Brett Bachus, the Vocali chorus paired with the Bethany UMC Chancel Choir, and vocal soloists. Ms. Longs association with Maestro Williamson goes back several years to his tenure as founding Artistic Director of the Texas Choral Consort, when he led TCC in performances of several of her smaller choral works both in Austin and overseas.
This historic performance promises to be one of Austins most enjoyable musical events of the year. Symphony No. 1 features as its third movement a beautiful Largo based on Longs Welsh song Cymru Am Byth (Wales Forever), written originally as a special gift for and presented by Dr. Williamson to the Llandaff Cathedral Choral Society in July 2006 during the choral symposium they shared with the Texas Choral Consort in Cardiff. The Millennium Mass (1998) will receive its first complete performance, with more orchestration and a new Credo added to the work in late 2000. Rounding out the program will be the Suite for Piano, Orchestra and Special Percussion (2006), a highly original five-movement work dedicated to the composers son, United States Navy pilot Austin M. Long IV, utilizing strings, winds, brass, piano, a plethora of percussion instruments, and electric guitar.
Dont miss this historic performance!
